Double meter tests | Single meter tests | Extremity tests

Please note that the needle color in the 2018 Petrometer models have been changed from yellow to black.

20. Glenohumeral External Rotation - Neutral

Place patient in seated position. Flex elbow 90 degrees and place meter on forearm. Line up "Zero" degrees with the "red" needle.

21. Glenohumeral External Rotation

Secure patient and rotate forearm away from body. Read test results from "red" needle when fully rotated.

22. Elbow Flexion

Extremity strap placement if desired. Second meter can be held by examiner without use of the strap during testing.

23. Elbow Flexion - Neutral

Meter attached to strap. Meter may be held without use of strap during testing if desired. "Zero" degree mark lined up with black needle by rotating dial.

24. Elbow Flexion

Flex elbow with palm supinated. black needle points to test results. No landmarks are needed for meter placement. The PETROMETER uses gravity, not meter placement for accuracy.

25. Glenohumeral Flexion

(shoulder)- Strap placement. No landmarks are needed for meter placement. PETROMETER's use of gravity for accuracy eliminates placement error.

26. Glenohumeral Flexion - Neutral

(shoulder)- Meter placed with black needle in line with "Zero" degrees. Examiner can hold meter without strap if desired.

27. Glenohumeral Flexion

(shoulder)- Flex shoulder to end play. black needle points to test results.

28. Glenohumeral Extension - Neutral

shoulder)- Place meter on patient perpendicular to floor. Rotate dial so black needle points to "Zero" degrees.

29. Glenohumeral Extension

(shoulder)- Patient's shoulder extended. black needle indicates test results.

30. Shoulder Abduction - Neutral

Place patient supine. Place meter on humerus parallel with floor. Rotate dial so "red" needle points to "Zero" degrees.

31. Shoulder Abduction

Abduct shoulder on horizontal plane. The "red" needle points to test results. Can also be done with patient sitting, (yellow or white needle then used for vertical plane test)

32. Ulnar Deviation

Strap placement if desired. Meter may be hand held without strap.

33. Ulnar Deviation - Neutral

Place meter parallel with floor on patient. Rotate dial so that the "red" needle points to "Zero" degrees.

34. Ulnar Deviation

Secure patient and deviate wrist. The "red" needle points to test results.

35. Ankle Extension/Rotation - Neutral

With patient sitting, secure meter on foot. Meter to be parallel with floor. Rotate dial so "red" needle points to "Zero" degrees.

36. Ankle External Rotation

Externally rotate patient's foot. Secure patient to avoid pronation. The "red" needle points to test results.

37. Ankle Plantar Flexion - Neutral

Place meter perpendicular to floor for vertical test. Rotate dial so the black needle points to "Zero" degrees.

38. Ankle Plantar Flexion

Secure foot to avoid pronation. Plantarflex foot. black needle points to test results.

39. Meter Attachment Assembly for Femur

Black strap attached around femur to white band. Meter may be attached to assembly for both vertical and horizontal testing.

40. Iliofemeral Extension - Neutral

Place mater on assembly perpendicular to floor. Rotate dial so that black needle points to "Zero" degrees.

41. Iliofemoral Extension

Extend femur. The black needle points to vertical test results.

42. Iliofemoral Flexion (Hip) - Neutral

Connect black elastic strap with white plastic band around femur. Attach meter to strap facing perpendicular to floor. Rotate dial to "Zero"degrees with black needle for vertical testing.

43. Iiofemoral Flexion

(Hip)- With distal femur contact (not shown) flex femur. black needle shows test results.

44. Iliofemoral Abduction - Neutral

Place meter attachment around femur. Place meter on headband assembly, and parallel with the floor, for horizontal testing. Rotate dial so that the "red" needle points to "Zero" degrees.

45. Iliofemoral Abduction (Hip)

Abduct femur. "Red" needle points to test results.

46. Iliofemoral Medial (Internal) Rotation

Attach black strap above ankle.

47. Iliofemoral Internal/External Rotation - Neutral

Attach meter to black strap perpendicular to the floor Rotate dial so that the black needle points to "Zero" degrees. This is the starting point for both internal and external tests.

48. Iliofemuoral (External) Rotation

Stabilize patient's knee and externally rotate femur. The black needle points to test results.

49. Iliofemoral Medial (Internal) Rotation

Secure patient at tibiofemoral joint (knee) and guide ankle lateral. black needle points to test results.

50. X-Ray Analysis

Scoliosis Arch: Place meter along upper cortex line of the superior vertebra in the arch to be measured. Rotate the dial so that the black needle points to "Zero" degrees. Drop meter down to the arches inferior vertebra and line up meter with the bottom cortex line. black needle will point to the degree of the scoliosis arch. Disc Wedge Angle: Place meter along top cortex line of disc and line up black needle with "Zero" degrees. Drop meter down and place along bottom cortex line of disc. The black needle will point to angle of disc being measured.

We are currently in the process of upgrading the Petrometer product. If you would like to be informed when the new edition is available, please follow the steps below, and we will contact you when the time arrives.
